สัมผัสประสบการณ์การเดิมพันกีฬาออนไลน์ที่ไม่เหมือนใครกับ ufa777 customization is often perceived as an important factor in determining player enjoyment and identification with their characters. However, it is not yet known how the different customization options (aesthetic cosmetic changes and character skills) interact with each other to affect players’ gameplay experiences and performance.
This study used a novel experimental approach to explore these effects using League of Legends. During the experiment, participants performed a task with and without choosing cosmetics for their avatars (Supplementary Appendix B). We analyzed the effect of this manipulation on the outcomes of choice-based and non-choice-based measures of avatar identification, fun, perceived competence, and estimated and actual performance in the game.
The Psychology of Character Customization in Online Games
Our results indicate that the choice to customize a player’s avatar significantly increased their sense of identification with the character. Moreover, the positive relationship between identification and fun suggests that players who engage in the customization process experience more enjoyment in their gameplay. We speculate that the increase in identification and fun is due to an improved sense of agency and autonomy resulting from making various choices while customizing their avatar.
We also found that the choice to customize a player’s character skills did not significantly impact their performance in the task. This result is in line with previous studies indicating that only a limited number of skill-based customizations influence gaming experience and performance. However, future research is needed to further investigate whether other factors besides the selection of skills influence gameplay and performance.
